The possibility of compiling a book came to me a number of years ago. It seemed, all at once, there needed to be a frame put around the experiences we as a family have had through the years. 

My course through life has been so different to that of my parents. My parents spent a very full life, tucked away, up in the northwest corner of the State of Utah, involved in the ranching business. It was a wonderful life, providing them an opportunity to raise a fine family and share the joys and love that comes with that endeavor. However, like everything else, even the Ranching business and that way of life evolves. 

It doesn't matter where you are raised or what you may do over the course of years, things change. Circumstances that surround you change and you must also change to meet the new conditions and challenges, otherwise somewhere in the course of life, you wake up and find you have become a dinosaur. I am not suggesting that my parents became dinosaurs, but many of those that followed the same course did. 

As a teenage boy I seemed to sense that the world was much bigger than the one I was living in. Occasionally I would catch a glimpse of the wonders that were just over the next horizon. How exciting it seemed! This is what I thought life was all about and I wanted to be a part of it ... 

So my course through life has been in a different direction than the course followed by my parents. It spans a major part of the nineteenth century and now has moved into the new millenium. It encompasses life in a rather simple, safe, predictable, protected way... a style that has become global in nature and includes an explosion of new technology that would have been beyond my comprehension, as a young boy. 

The process oflife for our family, through this span of time, has been a wonderful adventure. It has been filled with all the joy and wonderful memories that you could possibly expect... It has also had a share of sorrows and growing experiences that are also a part of life ... 
The purpose of the book is to record the journey and it's important events for the benefit of those that traveled with us ... and equally important, to leave a record for those that will follow. Wouldn't it be a shame for it all to disappear in the process of time?
